The game features single-player and multiplayer game play and contains an in-game level editor, its main feature. It is also used in a game called Red Eclipse. Sauerbraten is a cross-platform, Quake-like, first-person shooter computer game that runs on Microsoft Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X using OpenGL and SDL. The default install of Sauerbraten includes several town maps for exploring. This engine is also used for a RPG project, called Eisenstern. ![]() ![]() As of yet no one has released a complete free version of it. However it is not entirely free software as stray bits of multimedia included in it are proprietary. Sauerbraten is also a complete game by itself, with single player missions, single player deathmatch (against an invasion of monsters) and many multiplayer modes (capture the flag, deathmatch, assassin, etc.). Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing. In a large saucepan over high heat combine the water, cider vinegar, red wine vinegar, onion, carrot, salt, pepper, bay leaves, cloves, juniper, and mustard seeds. Sauerbraten is licensed under the zlib/libpng License, which is compatible to the GPL. One of the biggest changes is probably the use of lightmaps for level lighting, rather than fast vertex lighting like Cube did. Unlike Cube, Sauerbraten has lots of eyecandy functionality, like normal-, specular- and parallax-mapping, glow shaders and shadows. Like Cube, it features in-game map editing and cooperative editing over the internet. ![]() Sauerbraten got founded by Wouter "Aardappel" van Oortmerssen and received lots of interest from other developers. The Sauerbraten Engine is the Cube Engine's successor.
